Why do most characters in the Star Wars series get their hands cut off?
I’ll list all that I can remember.
II – Anakin
III – Mace Windu, Greievous, Dooku’s + his head, Anakin again
IV – C-3PO
V -???
VI – Vader
My only guess is that the lightsaber fights can be tied to the japanese art of KenDo. Scoring points in Kendo involves cutting off of the hand and striking the head with your bamboo sword (cutting off the head- striking the neck is far too dangerous for “practice”).
A lot of the Star Wars philosophy is based on Japanese philosophy and the Jedi way can be paralleled to Bushido.
Just my theory.
