What type of sandpaper should i buy to sand panel walls?

We have one room in the house that has the wood panel and has been stained. We want to paint that room and were told to sand the walls first. We just dont know what type to buy.

You won’t be able to sand all of the stain off, so you’ll just want to rough up the surface, then primer it, then paint. I’d go with something like a 120 grit
