Mastering New Raid Content in World of Warcraft
New raid content is always intimidating. Whenever Blizzard puts out a new content patch or expansion that includes raid content, we have to deal with a whole new set of challenges. No one knows the raids (except perhaps the people who’ve been practicing them on the PTR) and we have to face new boss strategies, class roles, and often, tweaks to our classes. If you’re feeling intimidated by not having enough time to practice playing your class or read up on in depth strategies for new boss content, here are some things you can do to prepare when attempting to master new raid content in WoW.
First off, don’t be intimidated by the people who are getting server firsts and beating this encounters the first night they attempt them. That’s very rare, and when it does happen, these are the people who spend hours upon hours researching, practicing encounters, and running instances with each other. They know their own playstyles and those of their teammates – and they are literally the “elite” of raiders. Many of them also transfer their characters to the PTR so they can have the advantage and test out these boss strategies before the content goes live. Don’t be intimidated by them.
Bearing that in mind, it doesn’t hurt to read up on older strategies and practice your current raids that your guild is doing. Also make sure to have reagents, consumables, gear, gems, and fresh repairs before you head to whatever raid you’re starting. Remember, part of efficient raiding is facilitating things – for example, warlocks need to have shards for summoning stones, so people can get in quickly to the raid.
Doing regular and heroic modes of Trial of the Champion are a great way to prep for Trial of the Crusader. Five mans are a good way to get a sense of how your teammates work, other peoples’ raiding styles, how to play your own class, etc. Five mans exist for that reason (and of course in order to gear up so you can hit the harder raids). Doing them often can help you practice playing your class and learning how game mechanics work so that you’ll be prepared for more difficult content.
Mastering new raid content in World of Warcraft is a fun and exciting challenge for anyone who’s serious about raiding. Be patient, practice, and dedicate yourself to learning the encounters and how your class fits into them.
