Can anyone recommend a “build your own robot kit” for my hubbies 40th birthday?
I’ve looked into the VEX robotic designs and the LEGO NXT mindstorms–but don’t know which one is better. Any ideas? Am I missing something else?
I’m not familiar with the VEX system, but I bought my 10 year old a LEGO Mindstorms NXT kit this past year and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. 
and… I’m 41. I just looked briefly at the VEX site online and one immediate difference I see is that it has the option to use a radio controller console to manually control the robot’s movements–as opposed to relying solely on pre-programmed instructions. This is not something that comes with the NXT system, although it can be programmed to accept input from bluetooth devices.
I loved playing with LEGO’s as a kid and that love for LEGO’s has never ended. I really enjoy the NXT. If you do go for the next, Amazon has a great price on it. $211, I believe. The link is below.
