What is the difference between a synchronous motor and induction motor? Please give some examples of each.?
Please let me know to which kind is, a lateral-magnetic single-phase capacitance motor, with a lateral magnetic construction that brakes when the motor shuts down that are usually used in electric hoist.

A synchronous motor is synchronized with the frequency of the 50 Hz or 60 Hz AC power so that it operates at an exact speed like 1500 RPM or 1800 RPM. An induction motor operate at an inexact and somewhat variable speed that is slightly less than synchronous speed such as 1455 or 1762 RPM. Small synchronous motors are used for some clock and timing mechanisms. Large synchronous motor are used for industrial applications. For more information see:

A single-phase capacitor motor is an induction motor.
A motor “with a lateral magnetic construction that brakes when the motor shuts down that are usually used in electric hoist” is probably a Demag KB conical-rotor brake motor.
