Child Blocks Safety

There are a variety of baby or younger child blocks to choose from. It is important to do your research and pick safe blocks because a small child obviously does not have the knowledge to know what is safe and not safe. Toy manufacturers adhere to certain standards when they make toys; however, sometimes faulty products get on a store’s shelf. There are a number of ways to find out if a product is safe for your baby before you purchase it. Remember, just because you research a product and determine that it is safe, things do happen. So please supervise a baby or young child when he or she is playing with any product.

The first thing a parent can do to determine if the blocks are safe is to obviously examine the toy before you buy it. On the box there should be a label telling you what age the block set is appropriate for. Although the product is still in the box, you will be able to see the picture of the blocks on the outside. You might be able to see the actual product through a clear panel. Use common sense and ask yourself the following questions. Do the blocks have sharp ends? Are the toy blocks too small? A small child will usually put any toy in his mouth, so be aware of this fact when you purchase any toy. Are the blocks painted? If so, you can read reviews online to see if parents have had problems with color rubbing off from the block. I have personally read stories from moms who have purchased Wooden Blocks and color from the block stained the child’s mouth temporarily.

The second thing a parent can do is read reviews online about several child blocks. Find out if other reviewers had any safety problem with the blocks you are interested in purchasing. The last thing you can do is confirm that there have been no product recalls. However, the store should always remove products when there is a recall.
